世界卫生组织(WHO)防盲规划咨询组第9次会议报告(1991年3月5日~8日,冈比亚首都,班珠尔)指出:WHO 于1987年根据有关资料估算全世界盲人约为2700万~3500万,同时指出起码有同等数量的低视力患者。全世界视力残疾患者中的90%以上生活在发展中国家;而其中50%以上生活在亚洲,而且大多数视力残疾者生活在边远地区。大部严重低视力及盲患者有残余视力,估计其中高达80%的患者视力在0.1或以下。
According to the report of the 9th meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) Advisory Group on Prevention of Blight Programs (March 5-8, 1991, the capital of the Gambia, Banjul), the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that in 1987, the WHO estimated that the number of blind people in the world is about 2,700 Million ~ 35 million, at the same time point out at least the same number of patients with low vision. More than 90% of visually-impaired people worldwide live in developing countries; more than 50% of them live in Asia and most visually impaired persons live in remote areas. Most of the severely low vision and blind patients have residual vision, of which up to 80% of patients with visual acuity of 0.1 or less.
