This article discusses four methods of measuring radial distortion. The results obtained from the same lens with each of the four methods are compared to investigate systematic errors and to evaluate the reliability of each method. Some sources of error are discussed. The conclusion is that as long as considerable care is taken to reduce all possible errors so that their size is negligible, an accuracy of ± 2μ can be achieved by any one of the four methods, ie the PEs of D_β do not exceed 2μ (here D_β is the distortion value obtained at β angle, and PEs is the probable error of a single measurement).
