Gerda Lerner is the pioneer of the history of American feminism, but also the founder of African American history of women. She took the lead in making clear that women’s history requires its own unique approach to research, and works hard to construct a gender-based method of interpretation. Her method of interpretation can be embodied as deconstruction, holistic and multidimensional synthesis. The method of gender explanation breaks through the language and the obsession with the study of the history of women. It focuses on the commonality of women as an independent entity and also interprets the differences among women as individuals in complex social relations and hopes to explore the relationship between the two sexes The general history. Although Lerner’s gender prerequisite has some limitations, it is still an effective way to explain the history of women and proactively points out the direction of the development of women’s history research.
