广西彩调传统“三学”“五子”戏产生于清末民初,当时正值中国封建专制制度从极端腐朽走向全面崩溃、广西地区鸦片泛滥、赌风盛行、社会动荡不安的特殊历史阶段。这些剧目的大量创作并广泛传承为我们了解近现代下层知识分子及社会各色人等的生存境况提供了具体可感的材料,同时也反映了当时下层民众的文化心理和精神世界,也正是这种特定的时代文化背景赋予了这些剧目深厚的文化意蕴。
