The authors studied the inclusion complex of benzaldehyde (BA) with α-, β-, and γ-cyclodextrin (CyD). The solubility curves of BA and its inclusion complex were determined. The solubility of BA and its inclusion complex were measured by using an infrared spectrophotometer and X-ray diffraction The BA and its three clathrates were analyzed and their thermal and photochemical stability were compared. According to the data provided by the solubility curve, the molecular weights of the three clathrates were 1: 1 for BA-α-CyD, 3: 2 for BA-β-CyD and 2: 1 for BA-γ-CyD The results of the separation test are quite consistent. X-ray diffraction results showed that the three clathrates were significantly different from CyD, indicating that inclusion complexes were indeed formed.
