A retired boxer named Delland Powell, in Dundee, Scotland, broke his legs and hands 18 years ago after an accident. At that time, the hospital blood bank just did not have the right blood type reserve, and his injuries must be transfused immediately, otherwise it will soon die. Only 1% of transfusion dysplasia may survive. Dran lost blood, happened to survive and recovered. Later, he went to donate blood, and Red Cross experts found that ANTI-D (anti-death hormone), a rare substance in his blood, was produced. If the parents’ blood is RH-negative and RH-positive respectively, the maternal blood antibody will destroy the fetal blood components and endanger the life of the fetus or newborn baby. Only ANTI-D can solve this problem. DeLand did not hesitate to agree with the Red Cross’s request to donate blood every 13 weeks. During the 18 years he saved 5,020 babies, all of whom were regarded as heroes by Scottish mothers.
