For the first time, an international team developed a one-step process for the preparation of seamless carbon-based nanomaterials with excellent thermal, electrical and mechanical properties in all three dimensions. The research is expected to improve the energy storage capacity of high-efficiency batteries and capacitors, improve the energy conversion efficiency of solar cells, and be used as light-weight thermal insulation coatings. The study was published online in ScienceAdvances September 4. “In our one-step process, the interface is made of carbon-carbon bonds and therefore looks like a single graphene sheet, which gives it excellent thermal and electrical conductivity on all surfaces.” " Liming Dai said.
