After more than a decade of rapid expansion, the trend of global foreign exchange reserves seems to usher in an inflection point. According to Bloomberg, from 2005 to 2014, the total size of global foreign exchange reserves increased by 2.3 times. However, at the end of the first quarter of 2015, global foreign exchange reserves dropped from a record 12.03 trillion U.S. dollars in August 2014 to 116.4 thousand Hundreds of millions of dollars, a decrease of 3.2% (see Figure 1). In terms of the currency structure of global foreign exchange reserves, the share of the U.S. dollar has risen by nearly two percentage points in the past year to 62.88% while the euro share has dropped by 2.2 percentage points to 22.2% (see Figure 2).
