There were no signs of panic when the threatof the influenza A/H1N1 virus reared itsugly head in China. The reason for the calmwas a simple one. The nation had been through asimilar if not more deadly epidemic in 2003. Thatwas when the deadly SARS (Severe Acute RespiratorySyndrome) outbreak taught the publicand authorities valuable lessons. Remaining calmand taking proactive preventative measures werethe order of the day back then. So with increasedawareness and facemasks back on, the populationhas gone about their daily lives with experience todraw on and added faith in the medical system.
