After the Asian financial crisis, the devaluation of Asian currencies prompted a large number of cheap textiles in Asia to be sold to the US market, which caused great impact on the US textile industry. In addition, the North American Free Trade Agreement also put pressure on the US textile industry and the scale of the textile industry has been greatly reduced. According to statistics, in the United States, the import volume of textiles and clothing in the United States increased by 14.8% year-on-year in 2000, and the US textile industry lost 519 million US dollars, which was the first negative growth. Recently, U.S. textile and apparel companies proposed to the U.S. government that for import growth, foreign textiles and clothing should be restricted from exporting to the U.S. according to relevant WTO regulations.
