如果将一组矿物浸入位于高梯度磁场中的顺磁性液体内,那么液体由此产生额外的上浮力作用会使矿物根据其密度在不同的高度上分成不同的组分。Rosenweig将这种现象称之为磁阿基米德飘浮。近年来,研制成功一种比早先更高场强和更大梯度的超导磁体。诺丁汉大学最近的研究表明,液态氧具有浮起金的能力。本研究采用室温条件下的氯化锰溶液和低温液态氧确定了用这个体系上浮和分选常见矿物的潜力。
If a group of minerals is immersed in a paramagnetic liquid located in a high gradient magnetic field, then the additional buoyant forces that the liquid creates can cause the minerals to separate into different components at different heights, depending on their density. Rosenweig calls this phenomenon Magnetic Archimedes floating. In recent years, the successful development of a higher field strength and a larger gradient than the previous superconducting magnet. Recent research at the University of Nottingham has shown that liquid oxygen has the ability to float gold. In this study, the use of manganese chloride solution and cryogenic liquid oxygen at room temperature to determine the potential of this system to float and sort common minerals.
