Mexico is a signatory to the GTA Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade. The legal basis for setting standards in Mexico itself is the Federal Law on Metrology and Standardization. The revised version of the Act was promulgated on 1 July 1992 by the Mexican Government Gazette. Under the law, foreign products entering the Mexican market must produce proof that the product meets the official Mexican Norm (NOM). The Government of Mexico believes that the enactment of the Act will help to increase the transparency and effectiveness of official standard-setting; encourage the participation of State-owned and private enterprises and consumer groups in the development of product standards and comply with and enforce these standards; establish mandatory regulations and confirm The methods they have followed.
