Since the discovery of the first case of AIDS in the United States in the early 1980s, this disease, known as the “plague of the century,” has spread rapidly in the world and has become a global disaster. The community support programs for HIV/AIDS patients in some foreign countries have mostly started in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and many of them have examples of success. For more than 10 years, community support has gradually evolved in many countries, and the range of care for AIDS patients has become more widespread. In addition to basic medical care for patients and families, the scope of community support also covers politics, economy (such as related fund establishment, financial insurance, allowance subsidies, housing provision), culture (information provision, psychological counseling), social contacts, and other contents. In the international community, Australia’s efforts to control AIDS are seen as examples of success. The Australian community has made important contributions to reducing the spread of HIV and providing care for AIDS patients.
