Magnesium atoms segregated to the grain boundary can drive other solute atoms with less atomic mismatch from the grain boundary into the intragranular lattice or grain boundary phase and enhance the segregation of interstitial atoms to the grain boundary. Enter into the unit cell of the grain boundary phase, thereby promoting the grain boundary phase and reducing the stability.
