In this study, we investigated the histopathological changes of the cochlea caused by chronic implants and electrical stimulation in five cats. Stimulation of the electrode ball were fixed in the round window and promontory promontory, with biphasic balanced 0.4 ~ 1.8mA, pulse width 100μS electric pulse for 1276 ~ 1526h of chronic electrical stimulation. Optical microscope examination of cochlear histopathology found that the round window and the promontory promontory were well fixed. The round window film of the fixed part of the electrode was thickened except for the attachment of the round window membrane of the 1-ear electrode to the bone spiral plate of the Hook region. In the control group, the loss of outer hair cells, mild loss of inner hair cells and the disappearance of Corti’s structure were seen in the basilar turn of the control cochlea. A small amount of spiral ganglion cells were lost in 2% . It is suggested that although the electrical stimulation of the cochlear electrode is more safe than the electrode in the cochlear electrode, mild histopathological changes still exist in the basement of the cochlea.
