After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, some earthquake-resistant buildings were found damaged in the earthquake. Taking a reinforced building located in Sendai, Japan as an example, the typical damage characteristics of damaged buildings are summarized and analyzed through field investigation. The structure should have an accurate grasp of the local damage and overall performance of the structure prior to the earthquake-resistant reinforcement. The influence of the local reinforcement on the overall performance of the structure should be considered when aseismatic reinforcement is carried out to avoid new weak parts and weak layers caused by seismic strengthening, thus weakening the structure Overall performance. Aseismic reinforcement should draw lessons from these damaged buildings to further improve and perfect the existing seismic appraisal methods and reinforcement measures.
