Orchid spot virus is a bullet-shaped or rod-shaped orchidaceous virus that is predominantly transmitted by California short-legged mites and can cause symptoms of chlorotic or necrotic plaque in orchids. Its distribution includes Asia, Europe, Oceania, the Americas and Africa, and can infect more than 50 species of orchids. Its extensive distribution and host range have great harm to the orchid industry in the world, but there is still no systematic study on the orchid spot virus in China. In this paper, a brief review of orchid spot virus from the aspects of traditional biology and molecular biology and its importance of quarantine are discussed.
