Targeting of nerve fiber growth and neural cell migration is one of the basic problems in neurodevelopment and regeneration research. The directional movement of axons and neurons toward the target site is accomplished by the synergistic effect of the nerve growth-promoting factor. Sit is the first recently discovered factor that plays a guiding role in both axonal growth and neuronal migration. Its guiding role in nerve growth is a major breakthrough in the field of neurodevelopment and regeneration research. Slit has also been shown to promote the extension and branching of axons in the dorsal root ganglion and inhibit the chemotactic movement of leukocytes.
