This paper introduces the fundamental principle and features of magneto-optical storage technology, and discuses the trend and a series of key techniques for increasing the data storage density of magneto-optical disk. The three ways including MO media, recording method and readout method for increasing the disk capacity have been discussed. Moreover, the importance with the exchange-coupled effect between the magnetic layers and recording domain morphology is emphasized.
