中小学体育教学中的身心教育和培养,是一个长期以来未能得到很好解决的问题。什么是教育?著名的教育学家基尔帕特里克(w.H.Kilpatric)说:“教育是将个人的经验与人类过去的经验相结合,进行系统化以产生质的变化,进而丰富对所有有关事物方面的整体经验。”什么是体育教育?著名的体育理论学家布劳内尔(C.L.Brownell)指出:“通过大肌肉运动和中枢神经系统的活动而对教育作出贡献的,即是体育。”通过体育教育是否可以培养性格?这个问题长时间以来在哲学家和科学家之间进行着讨论和辩论。综述:1)通过体育运动并不能自然而然地培养品德;2)体育活动在它所特有的丰富社会交往环境的条件下,通过教育过程而产生影响和效果;3)体育教师的基本任务是通过教育过程而进行品德和性格的培养;4)必须大力加强这方面的理论和实践性研究。
