Zola, a naturalistic author, under the influence of Comte’s positivism, gained enlightenment from Bernard’s experimental medicine and created the theory of experimental novels. This is not only the epistemology of naturalistic literature, but also a methodological study of how literature explores, expresses and represents life. This is a useful exploration and practice that enables literature to consciously rely on science to conduct character studies, achieve in-depth knowledge of people, and truthfully and accurately reflect as much as possible. This paper mainly analyzes the phenomenon of experimental novels appearing in Henry Green ’s novel Life with the theory of experimental novels of Zola in order to illustrate the role and influence of experimental novels in the creation of modern novels.
