The Chinese are an important part of Thai society. Their name issue has a major impact on social stability and has therefore been one of the concerns of the Thai government. This article tries to reveal the changing situation of the 20th century Chinese in the Thai society through the evolution of the Thai Chinese Thai name. The continuous Thaiization of Chinese names stems from the continuous adherence of the Thai government to the assimilation policy toward the Chinese people on the one hand and the increasing recognition of the Thai community by the Chinese on the other hand. In addition, in the face of the government’s naturalization policy, Chinese also maintain the relative independence of their own culture by means of a double name system.
