Yang Du was the backbone of the constitutional monarchy at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China. His long-standing adherence to the constitutional monarchy has its roots. Objectively speaking, when the quality of the people was low, the peasant economy still dominated and the ethnic groups were in a complicated situation. These factors provided a suitable soil for the initiation of Yang Du’s constitutional monarchy. Subjectively, Yang was deeply influenced by his teacher Wang Yunyun and the study of the emperors, plus his experience of studying in Japan, his ambitious desire to realize his political aspirations and his sense of patriotism, which made him think that China could only be practiced under the constitutional monarchy but not feasible Democratic republic.
