The extremely flat topography of the large Paleozoic coal-bearing basin in the North Paleozoic inland of North China is a good site for coal accumulation. Incidental transgression provides the conditions for the development of mudstone swamps and the rapid preservation of the peat so as to eventually form the coal seam. The study shows that several important event-type sea transgressions can be identified in the Carboniferous Permian coal series. It is of great practical significance to study the formation of these marine formations in order to find out the distribution of coal-rich units. This paper discusses the genetic relationship between event-based transgression and the formation and distribution of coal-rich units. The stratigraphy theory and method are applied to analyze the coal accumulation in Luxi coal field.
