The chemical compositions,microstruc-tures and some properties of the West HanDynasty PbO·BaO·SiO_2 glass clothes flakesexcavated from a tomb at Yang Zhou,JiangsuProvince were investigated. These glassflakes consist of a clear glass core and anouter layer with different thicknesses beingloose, grey and opaque due to the corrosionof the rotten dead body and moist surround-ings during a long period of about twothousand years. The glass core and the outerlayer are quite different in composition.Itis found that the thermal expansioncoefficient of the glass core is α=64×10~(-7)/℃(9-400℃),the transformation point T_g=476℃,the softening temperature T_S=520℃,therefractive index n_D=1.6389,and the micro-hardness H_V=438kg/mm~2.Results obtained bymeans of high resolution electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction,Raman spectrum, hightemperature microscopy and differentialthermal analysis are discussed.
The chemical compositions, microstruc-tures and some properties of the West Han Dynated PbO · BaO · SiO 2 glass clothes flakesexcavated from a tomb at Yang Zhou, Jiangsu Province were investigated. These glassflakes consist of a clear glass core and anouter layer with different thicknesses beingloose, gray and opaque due to the corrosion of the rotten dead body and moor surround-ings during a long period of about twothousand years. The glass core and the outer layer are quite different in composition. It has found that the thermal expansion coefficient of the glass core is α = 64 The transformation point T_g = 476 ° C, the softening temperature T_S = 520 ° C, therefractive index n_D = 1.6389, and the micro-hardness H_V = 438 kg / mm~2 (9-400 ° C) × 10 -7 / .Results obtained bymeans of high resolution electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectrum, hightemperature microscopy and differential thermal analysis are discussed.
