Contact-reaction welding using iron-boron based contact melting has been used to produce shank tools in many plants. For example, used to produce 50 to 90 mm diameter shank tool. In the past this type of tool was used to contact the butt welding method to connect the cutting part and the handle. Butt welding has many disadvantages: high-speed steel consumption (cutting part of the rough minimum length equal to 70 to 80 mm), power consumption, the need for complex equipment. Contact reaction welding can reduce high-speed steel consumption, do not need special equipment. However, some changes to the tool structure are required.
