The Australian novelist Gaby Nietch’s novel Bathing in the Light has three parallel plot structures: the great damage and eventual collapse of patriarchal families over the protagonists Thomas and Sikhs, Thomas’s opposition to patriarchy, Self-destruction under the weight of culture, the gradual enhancement of Skye’s self-awareness and the complete abandonment of the patriarchal myth. Through the completely different destinies of Thomas and Skye, Nehru not only criticized the patriarchal destruction of women and the disasters caused to men themselves, but also revealed the immense power of women to surpass that of men and completely negated the existence of patriarchal culture rationality.
