自由空间光通信是以激光作为信息载体,不需要任何有线信道为传输媒介的通信方式,可用于空间及地面间通信。其传输特点是光束以直线传播。 移动电话用户市场正在以迅猛势头发展起来。随着通信信息量的增大,网络愈发显得拥挤了。因此,网络带宽资源匮乏成了当今人们谈论的焦点。用什么方法能扩充通信流量呢?目前最主要的通信传输手段有微波、光纤等。微波通信与有线通信相比,可节省大量有色金属,并易于跨越复杂地形。“铱”系统便是基于微波的个人通信系统,但相对于光纤通信系统,微波通信的线路容量又比较小。光纤通信虽然有大通信容量的优势,但需要铺设光缆。怎样将二者的优势进行完美的结合呢?自由空间光通信技术由此应运而生。
