Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a specific cardiomyopathy characterized by structural and functional remodeling of the myocardium independent of coronary heart disease, hypertension and other heart diseases. Many factors affect diabetic cardiomyopathy, such as metabolic disorders, microangiopathy, calcium transport defects and autonomic neuropathy and other factors, but the pathogenesis is not yet clear. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are non-coding small RNAs that regulate gene expression after transcription and are involved in the regulation of many pathophysiological processes of diabetic cardiomyopathy. This article will focus on the relationship between miRNAs and some pathological changes in diabetic cardiomyopathy (eg, cardiac hypertrophy, fibrosis, apoptosis, metabolic disorders, and arrhythmias).
