For a long time, “Jane Eyre” has been interpreted as a feminist novel, Jane Eyre heroic defiance of the tragic fate of the protagonist, eventually got love and marriage, and even regarded as a model of feminism. Her marriage to Rochester is even more regarded as a feminist utopia. However, I do not agree with this view. Jane Eyre and Rochester’s marriage by no means a feminist utopia, because she made many concessions to patriarchal society in marriage. This article mainly consists of two parts: one of Jane Eyre’s personality is not independent; the second briefly Jane Eyre and Rochester unequal economic situation. Thus found, Jane Eyre’s marriage is not a feminist utopia.
