In early February, the U.S. Congress held a hearing. At the meeting, some members of the station supporting the Space Station - members of the Senate Science Committee warned NASA not to abandon the space station plan but to win new projects, in particular the exploration of the moon and Mars, and the observation of the Earth’s environment. The budget for NASA’s filing in fiscal year 1991 totaled $ 15.1 billion and there will be a political battle to allocate this budget. James Sensenbrenner said: “I had the impression that the space station was meant to give room for something similar to the lunar / Mars exploration project.” When allocating this budget, the Space Administration gave $ 2.5 billion to the space station . In the meantime, NASA again transferred the polar platform from the space station project to the geosciences project.
