Objective To observe the effect of two kinds of elastic bandages on the back of the child’s hand holding the needle. Methods One hundred cases of emergency intravenous infants were randomly divided into group A and group B, with 50 cases in each group. A group using mesh elastic bandage to strengthen the fixed indwelling needle, B group using self-adhesive elastic bandage to strengthen the fixed indwelling needle. The rate of unplanned extubation and the satisfaction of children’s family members in two groups were observed. Results Among the two groups, the unplanned extubation rate was lower in group A and the satisfaction of family members in group A was higher. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P <0.01). Conclusion The use of mesh elastic bandage can properly hold the back of the hand dorsal vein indwelling needle to extend the retention time and reduce the rate of unplanned extubation, the effect is better than self-adhesive elastic bandage fixation. The use of this method not only reduces the pain of recurrent puncture in children, increases compliance of children and their families to infusion therapy, reduces the workload of nurses and improves the quality of nursing.
