Most of the city’s cotton is distributed across the Yuan River. From the end of June 1989 to the beginning of July 1989, heavy rains continued for several days in a row, with ultra-historical water levels in the Yuan River. 58,563 acres of cotton (69% of the total area) in the city were affected by catastrophic floods. Among them, 50 million of the trees were planted, of which the total area was up to 20,000 mu. The remaining 38,563 hectares of cotton were flooded in the water and the flower buds were all exfoliated. Buds shed 80.8% of the dead strains 11.2%; half of the plant height submerged in water, the buds fall 69.3%, dead 8.2%; plant height 1/3 submerged in water, off 58%, dead 3.9%. In the face of such a rare flood, with the vigorous support of the party and government at all levels, we actively promoted disaster response technologies and minimized the losses caused by disasters. The results of the city’s average yield of 57.5 kg, an increase of 17 kg over 1988, an increase of 41.98%. Some flooding for 3 days and 5 days of cotton, also reached 85 kg and 61 kg per mu. Our experience in bumper harvests is:
