用不正当手段拉关系达到个人目的的行为,被人们称作“走后门”。“走后门”一词最早用于宋代。北宋年间,宋哲宗死后宋徽宗继位,徽宗任蔡京为相。蔡京上任后,排斥元祐哲宗年号的旧吏,规定其子女不得出仕和入京,甚至连他们的诗文也不准流传。蔡京的做法引起了民间的强烈不满。当时有一些聪明的艺人,在朝廷宴会上演出了这样一幕用以表达不满情绪的戏。有个大官升堂断事:一个和尚请求离京出游,由于这个和尚持的是元祐年间的戒牒,结果被令还俗:
