少数民族工艺美术图案是人类在认识自然、改造自然过程中,根据社会认知以及自身思想状态所提炼出的艺术化产物,并伴随着民族历史的发展而不断丰富其内涵。早期的民族工艺美术图案来源于原始族人混沌意识下的感性思维,所以难免会夹杂着鬼神及神话思想,随着历史的发展及时代的变迁,少数民族族人在原始图案上逐步提炼出表达民族思想及精神的象征性符号,图案的意义也逐渐转向了对本民族精神及文化的标识及传承。不同时期的民族工艺美术图案蕴含着不同的民族审美价值观,但其更多的体现在对物质世界的感知、对现实生活的写照以及对未来的美好愿景。
