Objective To investigate the lumbar spine bone mineral density and its age and gender in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods The BMD of lumbar vertebral L1-3 vertebrae in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and healthy controls were measured and analyzed to determine the presence or absence of osteoporosis. Results Type 2 diabetes mellitus (P> 0.05). There was no significant difference in the BMD of osteoporosis and the prevalence of osteoporosis in the men with type 2 diabetes between 60-69 years of age and the control group (P> 0.05). There was significant difference in the L1-3 waist between the female patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and those with type 2 diabetes mellitus (P0.05), and osteoporosis. Conclusion The lumbar BMD and The prevalence of osteoporosis (OP) was similar to that of normal control subjects, and the BMD of lumbar spine of T2DM patients decreased with age.
