Since the establishment of BTI, there have been many beneficial discussions on the mode of cultivating talents in this field, which is of guiding significance to the running of higher education institutions. However, there are still some unclear concepts such as translation majors and foreign language majors, general foreign language teachers and double-qualified teachers, translation skills and skills, professionals and generalists in the process of exploration. This study found that the main difference between translation and foreign language major lies in the differences in translation practice as well as in the breadth and depth of knowledge and skills. The difference between ordinary foreign language teachers and translation undergraduates is their professionalization or their understanding of translation profession. Translation ability and skills are the abstract and concrete distinction. The two are interdependent and complement each other. The two concepts of generalism and specialization are relative results. They are the result of individualized teaching and result of different people. All relevant institutions of higher learning should understand these concepts more accurately, clarify their position, clarify their thinking, dig deep into their connotations, solidify their sources and keep improving the training model for undergraduate majoring in translation.
