Corpus is a collection of a large number of computer-processable corpora. There are many types of corpora, and there is now a fair amount of corpus available for language research. The development of corpus linguistics is rapid and promising with implications in both theory and methodological work in many fields related to language use. This article explains the definition and connotation of corpus linguistics, introduces the theoretical basis and historical background of corpus linguistics, and discusses the application of corpus linguistics in foreign language teaching.
