This article tries to demonstrate how the ancient Greeks used their myths to rationalize their possession of territory, and to testify their right of residence; how to strengthen the national superiority by their autochthonism over others who were migrants; and how to serve the needs of society and politics. The article emphasizes the important role the myths played in Greek society, politics and diplomacy by way of enhancing the national cohesion, identity, pride and patriotism.
