As social changes have taken place, many family members in Hong Kong have not lived with them frequently. Some family members are often excluded from the family boundaries. Scholars pointed out that common interests and activities are important forces in rebuilding the home boundary. This study explores the relationship between family leisure activities in Hong Kong and the cohesion of separated families from the perspective of children and adolescents. The study found that family segregation was negatively associated with family cohesion, while participation of parents who did not live with their children in family leisure activities helped to increase family cohesion, and that the participation of mothers who did not live with their children significantly increased the participation in leisure activities of the family For fathers who did not live with their children, this higher level of participation also helped offset the negative impact of family separation.
