本文所研究的主要对象是本世纪的表现主义艺术合法性问题.艺术符号是一种言语行为,因此,我们的研究将主要从语用学的角度来展开.现代艺术史中的表现主义自凡高以来,经历了早期的蒙克和德国表现主义、中期的抽象表现主义(不定形艺术)以及后期的新表现主义三大时期.时间跨度上有一百来年的历史.从创作的角度看,它实际上是始终贯穿在整个西方现代艺术史中.回首现代艺术史,我们发现甚至有一半的篇幅是表现主义史.因此,不加分析地把具有如此规模与历史的艺术语言理解为发泄与嚎叫,我们认为这无论如何也不能体现智慧、信念与深沉,倒像是怯懦与贫乏的明证.
