Bronchial asthma,a common allergic diseaseof the respiratory tract,is classified in the cate-gory of xiao (哮) and chuan (喘)in the tradi-tional Chinese medicine (TCM) scheme.Successeswith acupuncture treatment have been reportedfrom time to time.Good effects are often ob-tained,even for patients with long histories ofdyspnea,and long-term effects may be quite stablein some of the cases treated.According to TCM,xiao (哮) refers to cases characterized by wheez-ing,while chuan (喘)refers to cases with dyspnea.Combining these two terms,we have xiaochuan,which roughly corresponds to asthma in modern
