挂入D挡,松开制动踏板。汽车开始缓缓向前滑行,却没有引擎的噪音。电子屏幕上显示,汽车正在依靠蓄电池里的电力前进。3公里后,随着一阵不易察觉的停顿,系统自动将动力切换到汽油引擎,除了为汽车前行提供动力,同时也会将蓄电池重新充满电。这就是丰田的混合动力汽车普锐斯。它可以在启动之初利用电力行驶,然后自动切换至汽油引擎。虽然依靠电力只能行驶3公里,但就凭这每天一点一点积累下的3公里,根据丰田提供的数据,全球150万辆普锐斯,一年能减少约700万吨的二氧化碳排放。2008年4月,丰田宣布:从1997年普锐斯正式投放市场以来,销售量已突破百万,达102.8万辆。其中59.2万辆在北美售出,31.5万辆在日本售出。这是个令人欣喜但并不算惊人的数字。

In April 2008, Toyota announced that sales volume has exceeded 1 million to 1.028 million since the Prius was introduced to the market in 1997. Of these, 592,000 were sold in North America and 315,000 in Japan. This is a welcome but not surprising number.
