This article elucidates the background and significance of astronomy, overviews the important progress over the past decade, and points out the main scientific problems for world astronomy. Based on a comparison between China＇s astronmical facilities, existing and in planing, and the major international facilities, the author proposes some strategies for promoting China＇s astronomy.
