Although they have typical Puritan qualities, they are not favored by God. This method of writing embodies Hughes’ intention of creation and challenges the reasonableness of religious belief in mainstream American society by asking the question “Where is God?” With black living confusion. This article is based on the short story “Let me play Bruce” as an example.
