Objective: To evaluate the effect of personality traits of oral lichen planus (OLP) on the quality of life related to oral health. Methods: One hundred and ninety-three OLP patients and 123 healthy individuals were surveyed by using oral health impact profile (OHIP-49 Chinese version) and the Fifth Personality Test (NEO-FFI). Five types of personality traits Effect on Oral Health-Related Quality of Life in OLP Patients. Results: The scores of OLP patients in five fields of functional limitation, physical pain, physical discomfort, mental discomfort and social power loss were significantly higher than those in healthy control group (P <0.05). The three personality traits of neuropsychiatric, extroversion and open in OLP were correlated with oral health-related quality of life. Neurotic character was positively correlated with total score of OHIP-49 (r = 0.59, P <0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Neuropathic personality traits in OLP patients may lead to instability in the evaluation of their oral health-related quality of life. Psychological intervention is required.
