The main mission of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is to protect human health and the natural environment. It is responsible for conducting surveys and setting national standards for various environmental programs and for monitoring compliance. EPA is a leader in environmental science and related investigations, education and assessment in the United States. EPA branches in various locations work with other industry organizations and state governments on pollution prevention programs and energy conservation. Since its establishment in 1970, the EPA has made outstanding contributions to creating a clean and healthy living environment for the American people.
