胡瑗(993—1059),字翼之,泰州海陵人(一说泰州如皋人)。因祖籍陕西安定,人称安定先生,是北宋著名经师和教育家。胡瑗早年读书山东泰山,十分专心。每次家书寄到,只要看到“平安”二字,便丢弃不顾,现在泰山还留有遗迹,名“投书涧”。胡瑗博学多才,除熟谙经书史籍外,又精通音律,擅长军事。仁宗景祐初,由范仲淹推荐,出任校书郎。后来,又受聘为苏州郡学、湖 Hu 瑗 (993-1059), the word wing, Taizhou Hailing (one that Taizhou Rugao).
