2001年11月，上海古籍出版社出版了上海博物馆藏《战国楚竹书（一）》，内容包括《孔子诗论》、《缁衣》、《性情论》，其中由29支竹简构成的《孔子诗论》，对于孔子及《诗经》研究乃至中国文学史研究、中国艺术史研究都具有重要价值。为此，本刊与北京语言文化大学中华文化研究所联合于2002年1月12日在北京召开了《战国楚竹书·孔子诗论》与先秦诗学学术研讨会，来自全国各地的60余位从事古文字、文物考古、古文献、先秦文学史、先秦历史、先秦艺术史、中国文化史研究的学者，共同就《孔子诗论》的整理与内容，及其对中国文学史、艺术史、文化史的影响进行了深入讨论。本刊本着百家争鸣、繁荣学术的精神，从与会专家的论文中选录部分作为一组笔谈发表，以期促进对这批新出版竹书的研究。
