“Granting” an event can be a complicated event. In the double-substance structure of “giving” the English-Chinese form, many verbs do not have the meaning of “transfer” related to “giving”. They only represent the sub-events of “giving”, ie, the causes, the consequences, the ways and the ways, Purpose and so on. However, these sub-events are closely related to the whole “give” event, which metonymically enables these verbs to express “giving” the whole of the event. This metonymic phenomenon is reflected in English and Chinese, especially in English.
